Are you coming up to your Summer Mountain Leader Assessment and feel that you’d benefit from a condensed refresher of the core skills that you will be assessed on? Or are you a qualified Mountain Leader who has not used the award for some time and would like to refresh your skills?
Join us on a bespoke, tailored ML Refresher – we will take you out onto the hill for the day and focus on whichever areas of the syllabus you feel that you need help on. We will give you some honest feedback on where we think you are in relation to the standard expected, leaving you with an action plan to focus your training in the run up to your assessment.
Your ML Refresher can cover all elements of the syllabus – common areas for a ‘deferral’ tend to be rope-work on steep ground, or micro-navigation, but we will also look at group management, leadership, the environment, river crossings and mountain weather.
If you want to practice your night-navigation, we can start the day a little later than normal to ensure that the final couple of hours are in darkness. If needed, we can also turn your ML Refresher into an overnight expedition, to bring all the skills together in a scenario as close to the real thing as you will get. At Lakeland Ascents, we pride ourselves in ensuring that your refresher is tailored to your own personal needs.
We can run your ML Refresher in the Lake District, Snowdonia or in Scotland.
Price: Our one day ML Refresher course costs just £140 – book now and save money by bringing a friend along, sharing the cost for only £50 extra. Please contact us if you want to add an overnight camp and we will look at a price for you.

Venue: We run ML Refreshers from the mountains of the Lake District, Snowdonia or Scotland – probably starting close to Langdale, Capel Curig or Glencoe.
Kit: It’s fair to say that you should know what sort of kit you need to take on the hill if you’re being assessed at this level, but we’ll talk to you about kit requirements when you make a booking. We will provide ropes.
